	Bishop Called in Rape Suit By Kieran Crowley New York Post December 2, 2006 http://www.nypost.com/seven/12022006/news/regionalnews/bishop_called_in_ra pe_suit_regionalnews_kieran_crowley.htm December 2, 2006 -- Bishop William Murphy - the spiritual leader of Long Island's Roman Catholics - has been subpoenaed to testify in a $100 million civil case against a former youth minister by two young people who were raped. Matthew Maiello, 32, of St. Raphael's Church in East Meadow, was convicted of rape and sodomy for the molestation of the two teens, one a 16-year-old girl, the other a 15-year-old boy, from 1999 to 2002. The lawsuit was filed by lawyer Michael Dowd, who said he subpoenaed Murphy because, as the head of the diocese, he had knowledge of how Father Thomas Haggerty, the priest at St. Raphael's, and the diocese handled the charges.
