Jury Selection Set in Trial of Pastor in Sex Assault Norwich Bulletin November 7, 2006 http://www.norwichbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061107/NEWS01/611070328/1002/NEWS01 New London -- Jury selection will begin Nov. 20 for the coming trial of a Norwich pastor accused of sexual assault of the daughter of a church member. Charles Johnson Jr., of 35 Fourteenth St., former pastor of the Norwich Assembly of God, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. He appeared in New London Superior Court Monday. He was arrested in February after a three-month investigation conducted by Norwich police and the state Department of Children and Families. A victim claims she was touched on two occasions when she was 11 or 12 and visiting Johnson's home during a church function. Defense attorney Peter Bartinik Jr. asked Judge Susan B. Handy Monday for the ability to talk with the victim. His request was denied, along with another request to narrow the time when the alleged abuse occurred. |
