Woodhull – David J. Troup, pastor of the Borden Baptist Church, has been jailed on felony sexual abuse charges.

State Police from Painted Post arrested the 39-year-old Troup, who lives in Painted Post, Saturday evening following an investigation that lasted less than a week.

Investigator Curt Eaton said the investigation began last week after State Police received a report from the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment in Albany.

Eaton declined to say whether the children reported the alleged incidents to their parents or to other adults.

Eaton said the victims are two boys younger than 11 years old. The incident occurred in July 2005 in the Town of Woodhull, according to a felony complaint filed in the case.

Eaton declined to say whether it happened at the church, which is located in the Town of Woodhull. Both the children are receiving counseling, Eaton said.

An order of protection barring Troup from further contact with the children has been issued.

Troup was arraigned in Town of Erwin Court and sent to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 property bond. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Woodhull Court at 7 p.m. today. Eaton said that appearance could result in assignment of a lawyer for the defendant.

First-degree sexual abuse is violent felony punishable by up to seven years in state prison.
