Claim Letter Alleging Birmingham Abuse in Gloucester | Page

November 9, 1990
Letter to archdiocesan attorney Wilson D. Rogers, Jr. from attorney Jeffrey
E. Rossman, representing a man who claims he was molested by Rev. Joseph E.
Birmingham at St. Ann's parish in Gloucester in the mid-1980s. Bishop Mulcahy
met with the complainant and arranged one hour of therapy for him. "To
avoid publicity for all parties concerned," Rossman is exploring a resolution
"without formal litigation." This would appear to be the same complaint
made to Bishop Mulcahy. See also Mulcahy's report,
with Birmingham's admission of guilt. A meager settlement
was reached on March 19, 1991 that included release from all claims.
