KOBE -- A Shinto priest from the prominent Nagata Shrine faces charges after he installed a secret video camera in a changing room used by shrine maidens, police said.

Officers from Nagata Police Station are preparing to send to prosecutors documents accusing the 30-year-old Shintoist of breaking the Minor Offenses Law.

The man, whose name has not been disclosed, has already lost his priest's job and has largely admitted to the allegations against him.

Nagata Shrine Chief Priest Masakatsu Fujiwara said the man's actions were "not behavior befitting a Shinto priest."

Shrine officials said a cleaning lady discovered the camera set up in an otherwise empty locker on the afternoon of Feb. 14.
