CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio 780) -- Francis Cardinal George is taking a little heat from one of his own priests, the long-time pastor of St. Gertrude Church in the Edgewater neighborhood on the North Side.

WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports Fr. Bill Kenneally says he told parishioners at mass Sunday that, if Cardinal George had stood in the way of removing from ministry priests who had allegedly abused children, the cardinal should resign.

Fr. Kenneally says he talked about how important it is the priest sex abuse scandal be discussed publicly in order for healing to take place.

Archdiocese chancellor Jimmy Lago says he's offended a local priest "would scapegoat" Cardinal George right now.

Archdiocese spokeswoman Colleen Dolan says the cardinal "has not gotten in the way of any procedures at all" and has been at the forefront of the movement for zero tolerance of priest sex abuse of children.
