BOSTON -- A defrocked Catholic priest was arraigned Tuesday on charges that he sexually assaulted young boys in Massachusetts during the 1980s and 1990s.
Robert Burns, 56, of Concord, N.H., was convicted of sex crimes against a young child in New Hampshire in 1996, several years after he was removed from his duties with the church in Massachusetts.
The charges against Burns stem from sexual assaults that allegedly occurred while he was working at two parishes in Massachusetts. Prosecutors said that he molested a boy when he was a priest at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston.
"The defendant continued to fondle the boy regularly for more than 18 months and periodically performed sexual acts on the boy," prosecutor David Deakin said.
