CORNER BROOK — The Roman Catholic diocese of St. George's says it is filing for bankruptcy protection in order to give sexual abuse victims the best compensation package.
However, Greg Stack – the lawyer representing the 36 men abused by priest Kevin Bennett – says the move is a stalling tactic.
By filing for bankruptcy protection, the diocese has put a temporary stop to the civil suits.
Bishop Douglas Crosby says the diocese does not have the $50 million dollars in compensation that the 36 victims are seeking.
