SWAMPSCOTT - The Rev. Clyde H. Chetwynde, who was appointed pastor of St. John the Evangelist earlier this week, said he is pleased with his new appointment.
"It is a very dynamic and wonderful community. This is a great parish and I am looking forward to serving here," Chetwynde said.
Chetwynde, who is a native of Duxbury and has been in the ministry for 25 years, said he also loves the view of the ocean he has from his window.
"Since I have been ordained I have not been situated near the ocean. I love looking out my window and seeing the ocean" Chetwynde said.
Chetwynde, who formerly served at St. John the Evangelist in Townsend, was appointed pastor of the Swampscott parish by Archbishop Sean O'Malley on Monday.
Chetwynde replaces the Rev. Jerome Gillespie, 55, who was sent to St. John's in September of 2004 and resigned last month after allegations of misconduct.
