Seventy-seven-year-old Stephen Allen, of the Christian Brothers Provincial, Griffith Avenue, Marino in Dublin, abused the boys when they were in an industrial school between 1961 and 1964. In February, he pleaded guilty to 21 counts of sexual assault. In interviews with Gardai, Stephen Allen described the abuse as “an affection that went out of control”. Judge Frank O’Donnell noted Allen “didn’t recognise his own culpability” which, he added, “garners little sympathy”
